Gaea Schell (flute/piano), and leader of 'Quinteto de Luna Nueva', heralds from Canada, and though is best know as a straight ahead jazz pianist, has recently been traveling to Mexico and Cuba and playing (and recording) flute increasingly with Latin groups. She has performed with John Stowell, Nancy King, Albert 'Tootie' Heath, Clare Fischer Big Band, Marcus Shelby, Kellye Gray, Bobby Watson, Vince Lateano, Richie Cole and Sol Caribe de Cuba.Bill Ortiz's (trumpet, of the Santana Band), co-leader, performing/recording credits include work with such diverse and dynamic artists as Tito Puente, Chucho Valdez, Destiny’s Child, Tony Toni Tone, Cachao, Herbie Hancock, Don Cherry, Cindy Blackman-Santana, Boz Scaggs, Eagle Eye Cherry, Wayne Shorter, Ravi Coltrane, Chick Corea, The Dramatics, En Vogue, Buddy Guy, Lauryn Hill, Bobby Hutcherson, Pete Escovedo and Sheila E, Angelique Kidjo, Beyonce’ Knowles, John McLaughlin, Flora Purim And Airto, Todd Rundgren, Bennie Maupin, Souls Of Mischief, TLC, Cecil Taylor, Johnny “Guitar” Watson, Steve Winwood, and more.Rebecca Rodriguez (conguera and vocalist, and the band leader of San Francisco’s all-femme salsa band, Agua Pura!), is a first generation Colombian American who grew up in Monrovia in Los Angeles County. She played piano as a child and later joined her high school’s drum line. While attending San Francisco State University, she starting going to hear the Afro-Cuban Ensemble play that was directed by John Calloway.They will be joined on Thursday's performance at Meyhouse byErick Peralta, piano/percussionAnd from Camagüey, Cuba (former bajista with Maraca!)
